Over 100 Years of Tradition, Service, Sportsmanship, & Dedication to Dogs
The Spokane Kennel Club was established in 1903, making it the oldest organization in the Inland Northwest dedicated to the sport of purebreed dogs. The Spokane Kennel Club has a rich tradition of serving the Spokane dog community by offering competitive, educational and cultural events. First held over 100 years ago, the Spokane Kennel Club Dog Show is one of Spokane's oldest and most prestigious sporting events.
The Spokane Kennel Club is a member of the American Kennel Club, the principal registry for purebred dogs in the United States and the largest registry in the world. The AKC and its affiliate, AKC Companion Animal Recovery, strive to be a pipeline of support through microchip and scanner donations, veterinary student scholarships, search and rescue group grants, natural disaster relief, and many other charitable programs.
The SKC is also a member of the AKC’s Canine Health Foundation, the world’s largest funder of exclusively canine research, with a mission to develop significant resources for basic and applied health programs with emphasis on canine genetics to improve the quality of life for dogs and their owners.
The members of the Spokane Kennel Club share the values included in the Code of Sportsmanship. These values are practiced in all sectors of our sport: conformation, performance and companion. These principles of sportsmanship are a prime reason why the SKC has survived for over 100 years.
The SKC firmly believes and advocates that the best source for a puppy or adult dog for your family will always be those responsible breeders who produce puppies with the goal of improving the health and physical traits of that breed. To accomplish that, responsible breeders continuously study their pedigrees and breeding stock, do health checks on all of their dogs involved, properly raise and socialize their puppies, and stand behind their puppies. Responsible breeders are proud of their dogs and participate in activities and organizations that further their knowledge of their breed and their dogs.
If you are planning to add a dog to your life and come to the Spokane Kennel Club Dog Show to look over the best of the best, please note, no dog you have seen at the Spokane Kennel Club Dog Show came from a pet shop, or was the 'product', if you will, of a puppy mill. If you want a dog, go to the people who care - the dedicated specialty breeders who have made dogs like those you see at the Spokane Kennel Club Dog Show - a lifetime effort. Talk dogs with dog people who care and understand.
